After being formally trained as an Interior Designer, Sam has spent the last 15 years working for some of New Zealand’s top commercial furniture design companies. During this time, Sam has fitted out some of New Zealand’s largest commercial and government spaces, and has enjoyed guiding and educating her clients through new ways of working, designing bespoke furniture solutions, spatial planning and project management.
While working in this field, Sam has observed the need for a greater emphasis on ecological interiors and as a strong advocate for sustainable design, Sustainable Spaces has been born.
With a priority on natural materials, NZ made, locally sourced or environmentally accredited items, Sam’s designs show that a sustainable design doesn’t have to look basic or frumpy, it can be beautiful, contemporary, comfortable and well formed. Sam’s wide network of suppliers, furniture restorers and local providers complete the picture.
Sam was born in Wellington and has lived throughout NZ, but spent her childhood and early adult years in the UK. Always with a pencil in her hand, Sam grew up studying the arts, and eventually directed her attention to interiors.
Sam loves the natural world and all that NZ has to offer, with its beautiful scenery and amazing walks just on our doorstep. When not outdoors or designing, Sam can be found cooking, spending time with her family and friends, and enjoying a glass of vino.
